Helping Homeless Families

Description:

This organisation provides housing and family support services in response to the needs of homeless families. Their service aims to keep families united in a safe and dignified environment. This includes helping them address the issues that have led to homelessness and enable them to successfully re-establish themselves in the community. This is a very special place where families can gain valuable support and skills to improve the future for themselves and their children.

To do this successfully families are supported with social work support. The learning centre provides education on financial literacy, computers, ESOL, Safe food handling certificate and sewing for the family. A free early childhood centre is on site. Children are offered Kids Club and holiday activities.

Your team will have an opportunity to work on various tasks around the site, as needed to support the day to day operations. This may include: preparing units for new families, cleaning, sorting donated goods, maintaining the grounds and buildings. At times help is needed to pack hampers and gift bags for families.

This will be a life-changing day which will alter your perspective on those less fortunate and open your eyes to appreciate what you have.

The fact that you were helping people less fortunate than yourself was important.
We valued learning about what the organisation does, and how they help families in need of support through tough times...and being able to contribute to the upkeep of the spaces used.
It was positive knowing that we helped to touch the lives of people encountering hardship and giving them respect.
