Our butterfly habitat in the park was severely affected by the storms in January/February 2023. Firstly, much of the topsoil was washed away and then with the cyclone several trees blocked the entrance to this "secret garden" so we couldn't get in there to fix things. We now need weeders and mulchers to get the garden looking sweet again!

Did you know that over 90% of NZ's native butterflies are only found in NZ? A butterfly habitat has several values - it's not just a "garden". Many of the plants which people think are weeds are hosts to our native butterflies and moths. So any team that wants to spend two hours there will learn a lot about our beautiful butterfly species as well as helping out. It's a great opportunity to get to know each other better... and learn about our butterflies and moths and their needs.
