Description:

Upper Waitemata Ecology Network is a local grassroots NGO working to increase the biodiversity in the Upper Waitemata catchment.

Here in Albany, we have lots of wonderful natural reserves in desperate need for weed control, rubbish pick ups, pest control and wildlife monitoring. We can work with your staff to build a really meaningful day of service, teamwork and education, all in the natural environment. We can organise activities around identifying and removing weeds in local parks (and planting natives in their place during winter months), picking up rubbish alongside waterways and tributaries and learning about the local wildlife with some 'citizen science' in bird monitoring and species identification. Albany is home to many native threatened species including the Banded Rail (mohu-pereru) and Bittern (matuku Hurepo) and Long Tailed Bat (pekapeka-tou-roa). Keeping our parks healthy and thriving, free of invasion weeds, litter and pests is a worthy project for any team to take on.

Additionally, if you are looking for a more long-term service project for your organisation, we can develop more regular service based experiences for your team e.g. your company can 'adopt' a trap line or an area of stream, as a corporation, and invest in the long term projection of this special place. A great way to give back to your community.
