Weed and native plant mapping 2024 (Biodiversity Survey 2024)

Location: Blockhouse Bay & Avondale (15-20 mins from Auckland city)
Availability: Weekends on booking through Volunteering Auckland
Team size: 5 - 10

Description:

We need people to take photos of weeds and native plants in various reserves. The photos taken will be downloaded onto an app or the iNaturalist website. No experience is necessary. The app is so easy use and informative. The more photos you take of the plants the more you learn. A great project for an environmental and conservation student who needs practical experience of identifying plants.

The importance of collecting the data is to establish a baseline of the species abundance and richness within the Whau River Catchment and the data will be included in our Environmental Monitoring Programme.

The photos (data) taken of the plants will increase our knowledge of what is present and how we can implement plans to support the native plants in the future. We will be able to establish where the native plants within the catchment and where there are weed infestations.
